Women and women’s issues are generally overlooked or trivialized in the mainstream media, as is the ability of women to lead positive change in the world.
Why this is, and the effect the dearth of women in the media has on our culture and thinking, will be the topic of other posts. For now, I’d like to present 10 (plus one) substantial sources of news about women.
Read the news on these sites, and you’ll expand your perspective and realize more deeply the role women have to play in changing the world for the better. Eleanor Roosevelt and others have said “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness”. These organizations have lit candles bringing women’s issues and power to light.
The sites below provide solid news on issues related to women; most are run by women. Some are dedicated journalistic sites; others provide information about United Nations and development work, and/or commentary. One site and group provides resources, training, and camaraderie for women journalists.
