On sharing good news

Abby_at_SFBaySo much good is going on in the world – yet the media, and so many individuals, tend to focus on the negative. Many people, especially in the U.S., start and end their days listening to or watching the news, and stressing and upsetting themselves because of the constant barrage of negativity. Imbibing negativity in the form of the media is particularly pervasive at night, when we would best be served by unloading the cares of the day, rather than assuming more, and in the morning, when filling ourselves with positive thoughts and focusing on the good can determine our mindset and how we go through the day.

I’ve always and increasingly wanted to help people focus on the positive, in their individual lives, and in the community, through the media. One of the projects I’ve had in mind for some time is now up and running: a website where people can post about the good in their lives, and share gratitude and kindness.

The website is Litare.com. Please visit Litare and let me know what you think.

From Litare’s About page:

Litare is a place where you can post positive news, share an incident that brought a moment of happiness, and express gratitude. Litare is also a place where you can come to read about good in the world — which can help change your mood or outlook if you’ve been having a hard day.

From Why Litare?

While there’s a lot of good that happens in the world, and many acts of kindness shown in matters great and small, the mainstream media tends to focus on the negative and ignore the positive. This focus on the negative only serves to pull us as individuals, and us as a society, downward. As philosophers have stated for centuries, the content of our thoughts, and the words, sounds, and images that reach our thoughts, influence our further thoughts and shape our experience of the world.

Simply put, the media’s myopic focus on the bad, the inhumane, and the negative affects us, casting a heavy shadow of gloom and doom on minds, hearts, and spirits. It’s hard to think or live positively when you’re inundated with media negativity.

We believe (as do many) that if we share good news and gratitude, our moods, our lives, and our world will improve. This is not anything new, in either a philosophic sense, or as a website. However, now, at a time when so many people are filled with fear, anger, and anxiety, every bit of positive news we spread can elevate the mood of individuals, and ultimately, individuals change the mood of the world and the world itself. It doesn’t take much effort to share the beautiful, the thoughtful, the considerate, the kindnesses, the gratitude, the good in our lives.

This website will be one small way to share, and perhaps serve as a reminder that we can bring the positive into our conversations, emails, and interactions throughout each day. This tends to make us feel better, and others feel better too.

Please visit Litare.com and share. Or just visit and see if what others have shared helps your day go better.
